Glowing letter from Sue Beukema and  Newton Community Theatre

     The Newton Community Theatre performed "Hot Flashes" in March, 2009.  The production was well received by women as well as the men. We heard lots of laughter from women seeing themselves in the comedy.  We also took a cut version to the Iowa Community Theatre bi-annual festival and won the state competition, advanced to regional in Minden, NE and received the only standing ovation there.
      Our casting was slightly different because we had the four ladies as singers and had a back-up band of two female piano players (one was the music director) and a male percussionist.  The range that the characters can develop is great.  The show starts with the actors playing middle aged ladies and by the end they are senior hotties!  My favorite song was "Senior Moments" and our ladies did a dance using walkers as props.  It was a pleasure to with Kate and her crew.   They allowed us flexibility to be able to create what worked best for our area.
